Card tennis: Alexandria splits

The Cardinal boys topped New London-Spicer, fell to Fergus Falls

The Alexandria tennis team split a home triangular last Thursday night by beating New London-Spicer 5-2 after falling to Fergus Falls 6-1.

The Cardinals bounced back from that opening loss by sweeping the doubles lineup against the Wildcats. Austin Storm and Mack Wadi anchored the lineup with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the top spot. Brendan Holm and Will Harding followed with a close 7-6 (7), 7-6 (6) win at the second spot and Levi Duwenhoegger and Mark Kallevig won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot.

Ben Von Bargen and Jake Strand got the two wins in the singles lineup for Alexandria. Von Bargen beat Corey Fordham in straight sets at No. 3 and Strand did the same against Jon Miller at the fourth spot.

The Otters proved to be too much throughout the entire singles lineup for Alexandria. Fergus Falls took every match in straight sets, with Trevor Grandgenett coming the closest for the Cardinals. He matched up with Jesse Schneeberger at second singles and pushed him in the first set before losing 6-4, 6-2.

The Cardinals’ only win came at first doubles. Wadi and Holm lost the first set 3-6 but bounced back to win 6-4, 6-4 over the final two.
