Card softball: Alexandria defeats St. Cloud Tech

Alexandria evened its record to 3-3 with an 11-3 win over St. Cloud Tech on Friday.

Alexandria didn’t waste any time getting on the board, scoring once in the first as Sarah Bruzek slapped an RBI single.

The team added four more runs in the second as Mikayla Lucas singled home a pair of runs and Jessica Syvrud hit a two-run double.

In the third, Lauren Trumm drove in a pair to make the score 7-0 before Tech was able to score twice in the fourth.

Lucas started the fifth with a double, then scored on another double, this one off the bat of Syvrud.

Trumm singled home Syvrud to give Alexandria a 9-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Alexandria put the game out of reach for the Tigers as the Cardinals scored twice on singles by Trumm and Bruzek, but Tech was able to add a run in the bottom half of the inning before reliever Emily Kuennen shut the door.

“Mikayla Lucas and Jessica Syvrud did a great job defensively and the Cardinals did a great job at the plate, collecting 11 hits and drawing eight walks,” said head coach Randy Albers.

Taylor Ellingson got the pitching win as she went six innings and allowed just two earned runs.
