Auditions announced for ‘The Secret Garden’

The Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) announces auditions for its fall musical, The Secret Garden. They will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 21 and 22 at 6:30 p.m. The production runs September 20 to 29, and rehearsals are expected to begin in early August.

The Secret Garden, directed by Benjamin Klipfel, is based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnet. It tells the story of Mary Lennox, a lonely girl who is sent to live with her Uncle Archibald in England after being orphaned by a cholera epidemic in India.

Still grieving over the loss of his wife, Lily, who died 10 years earlier during childbirth, and distraught over the condition of his bedridden son, Archibald casts a dark shadow over the manor until Mary discovers a secret garden once belonging to Lily. By nursing this garden back to life, Mary helps restore life to her grieving uncle and his sick son.

The Secret Garden is a Tony and Drama Desk Award winning musical that premiered on Broadway in the early 1990s.

To audition, prepare 16 bars of music to sing (an accompanist will be provided) and bring a headshot. Complete audition information, including a list of cast roles and vocal ranges is available online at www.alexandriaareaarts.org.
