Minnewaska girls' golf: Lakers sweep meets at Willmar, Sauk Centre

The Minnewaska girls’ golf team added two more wins to its resume as the Lakers won the Willmar Invitational Monday and the West Central North Conference meet at Sauk Centre Tuesday, claiming medalist honors in both outings.

WILLMAR INVITATIONAL

Minnewaska continues to show mid-season form as the Laker girls rocked the competition at the Willmar Invitational Monday, outshooting the second place Rocori Spartans by 37 strokes and grabbing five of the top 10 individual spots, including medalist.

Senior Brianna Janu grabbed the top spot with rounds of 39 and 38 for a total 77 – two strokes ahead of Marja Sorensen of Rocori.

Junior Alexis Guggisberg was third at 80, while freshman Jenna Janu was fifth at 84, sophomore Ellen Stensrud was seventh at 88 and 7th grader Ashlyn Guggisberg was tied for eighth at 93.

WCCN MEET

Taking all four of the top spots, the Laker girls cruised to a 41-stroke win over second place Albany to remain in the lead of the West Central North Conference standings.

Jenna Janu earned medalist honors by posting a 40, followed by Ellen Stensrud at 41, Brianna Janu and Alexis Guggisberg at 42, and Ashlyn Guggisberg at 48.
