ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Motorists traveling on Highway 23 in St. Cloud east of Cooper Avenue will encounter lane closures and a nighttime detour when a pedestrian bridge project begins Monday, April 30.

Crews will replace the existing pedestrian bridge and sidewalk approaches. Bridge aesthetics will match the new Mississippi River Granite City Crossing bridge.

Crews will remove the bridge on Monday evening, April 30, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Bridge demolition is expected to be completed by morning rush hour.

During the project, traffic will use a detour on Wilson Avenue, East St. Germain Street and Lincoln Avenue. To view the detour, visit www.mndot.gov/d3/newsrels/11/detours/hwy23detour2011pedbridge.pdf

All work is scheduled to be complete by the end of August, weather permitting.

Edward Kraemer & Sons Inc. of Plain, Wis., is the prime contractor for this $1.5 million project.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
