Card boys' golf: Alexandria third at Central Lakes Conference meet
The Brainerd boys’ golf team showed off its depth in the first Central Lakes Conference meet of the season in Sauk Rapids on Monday, taking first as Alexandria finished third.
The Warriors’ Tommy Olson, Aaron Rich and Thomas Stoxen shot 78s to tie for medalist honors and carry their team to a team score of 318 in cold and windy conditions at the Oak Hill Golf Course. Fergus Falls followed in second with a 335 and the Cardinals were one shot behind with a 336.
“I guess it could be that of the six players, only one player had previous varsity CLC experience,” head coach Rick Larson said. “In any case, it still was not up to most of the players’ standards.”
Sophomore John Vogeler continued to shoot well this spring by finishing with a team-low 82. Seniors Austin McCulloch and Tanner Gustafson followed with an 84 and 85, respectively, while freshman Cole Haugen shot an 85 to round out the Alexandria scorers.
“Now we know a little better what needs to be worked on and can make some improvements,” Larson said.
