The Alexandria Kiwanis Golden K recently donated $1,000 to the Alexandria Fire Department. The money will be used to purchase pediatric medical bags for use in responding to medical emergencies involving infants and small children.
With this donation, the department was able to purchase three bags. Each bag contains national Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) equipment and supplies.
These items are suited for the physiologic, anatomic, developmental and emotional characteristics of children and their unique health care needs.
The pediatric medical bags are now carried in the heavy rescue truck (Unit 27), chief’s rig (Unit 30) and mini rescue truck (Unit 24).
With this equipment, local first responders are better equipped to deal with the special needs of infants and small children in the community, according to the fire department.
Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
Around the world, Kiwanis members stage nearly 150,000 service projects, devote more than 6 million hours of service and raise nearly $107 million every year for communities, families and projects.
Golden K is a special Kiwanis Club, dedicated to serving the community and its youth. It’s made up primarily of retired people, although it is not limited to them.
In addition to its donation to the fire department, the Alexandria Golden K manages the “Terrific Kids” program, provides for a summer tennis clinic for 4-6 grade students and gives financial support to many Douglas County organizations.
