Q: How can I get timely information from the Alexandria Police Department?
A: The Alexandria Police Department uses a service called NIXLE. This is a free service to sign up for and it allows a person to receive e-mails, text messages, or both to get updates on incidents that occur in our community. Through this service, we can notify people of community events, advisories and alerts of which people may want to be aware. This service allows us to communicate with subscribers about timely matters for anyone who wants to know what is happening in Alexandria.
To sign up for NIXLE, please visit www.alexandriapolice.com and look for the area in the upper right hand corner titled “Community Message Service Sign up Now!” Anyone can click the link in that box and sign up. Or, if you prefer, you can send a text 56308 to 888777 and get signed up that way. If you would like to learn more about either way to sign up, please follow the directions mentioned earlier in this paragraph to get to the website and read about how to sign up and what type of information you could receive. Additionally, once you get to the service from our website, there is a link for a person to download an app for their Iphone, Ipod Touch or Ipad. Yes, “there’s an app for that!”
NIXLE is another way the Alexandria Police Department is working to help get information to the community we serve. This will not replace our news releases or newspaper articles, but is another media format we use to get information to our community.
