Track and field: A-B-E girls third, Osakis fourth at Minnewaska Invitational

The Ashby-Brandon-Evansville girls’ track and field team recorded a third-place team finish to lead all local teams at the Minnewaska Invite last Thursday.

The Osakis girls were right behind in fourth and Minnewaska was sixth out of the seven-team field. The Osakis boys finished fourth with Minnewaska and ABE following in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Halle Christianson was a top finish for Minnewaska. She took first in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:37. Britta Lundblad took first in the high jump (4-10) for the Lakers and the boys’ 4x100-meter relay team also added a first-place finish in 48.75 seconds.

Megan Friedrich won the first event for ABE when she took the 100-meter hurdles in 16.26 seconds. Caroline Jansen followed with a win in the triple jump (33-02.50) and Heather Strese took the shot put with a toss of 36-00.25.

The Osakis girls continued to control the relays. The Silverstreaks won all four events, including the 4x400 by 10 seconds over Benson-KMS. The 4x800 team of Brittney Sadlemyer, Abby Stroup, Makayla Hoglin and Calista Sadlemyer edged out Benson-KMS by .10 seconds to secure the sweep of the relays.

Hannah Szech added a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash for Osakis. Devon Nelson got the top finish for the Osakis boys. He took first in the 3,200, edging out Ryan Olson of Ottertail Central by five seconds.
