Bridge work to resume on I-94 near Evansville

Motorists in Douglas County may encounter delays beginning Monday, April 16, when the Douglas County Road 1 bridge project on Interstate 94 resumes two miles east of the Evansville/Elbow Lake exit.

Douglas County Road 1 motorists will encounter lane closures and a two-week detour while crews complete repairs and painting beneath the bridges, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

I-94 motorists may encounter brief shoulder and lane closures while crews remove temporary crossovers. All work will be completed in approximately one month, weather permitting, MnDOT said.

The bridge resurfacing and painting project began in May 2011. The project was originally scheduled to be completed in fall 2011, but was extended due to last year’s state government shutdown.

The bridge work will prolong the life of the bridges and improve safety and mobility along the I-94 corridor.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide travel information, visit www.511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to www.mndot.gov.
