The Ashby softball team overcame a 9-2 deficit to win 10-9 against Pelican Rapids and move to 2-1 on the season.
The Arrows tied the game in the sixth inning before Bailey Funkhouser provided the heroics in extras. She stepped to the plate in the ninth inning and hit the game-winning home run to cap a memorable come-from-behind win for her team.
“I’m so proud of the girls today by their stellar defense and great hitting,” head coach Kandace Norby said. “They maintained their poise and fought back to pull out a great win.”
Amber Sundal got the win in her season debut from the circle. She scattered 13 hits and struck out five in the complete-game performance.
Funkhouser led Ashby with three hits and three RBIs. Sundal added two doubles herself, while Jeannette Evavold and Meg Roley each added two hits apiece.

The West Central Area softball team dropped to 0-3 on the season with a 23-5 loss to Browerville on Tuesday night.
The Knights started out with RBI-singles from Lauren McLaughlin and Mikaylah Stark in the first two innings. The Tigers responded with a big third to blow the game open on their way to their second straight win to start the season.
