A-B-E track: Jansen leads girls to second at Marv Meyer Invite

Caroline Jansen paced the Ashby-Brandon-Evansville girls’ track and field team to a second-place team finish at the Marv Meyer Invite on the University of Minnesota-Morris campus on Tuesday.

Jansen finished in the top two in four events. She took the long jump with a leap of 16-02. She finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.38) and in the 300-meter hurdles (52.39) before rounding out her day with a runner-up finish in the triple jump (32-07).

Heather Strese and Megan Friedrich also had wins for ABE on the night. Strese took the shot put with a toss of 35-05 before finishing third in the discus (91-11). Friedrich was first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.86 and third in the 100-meter dash in 13.03.

The ABE boys were paced by Toby Wach as they finished eighth out of the 11-team field. Wach finished second in the discus with a throw of 40-08 and fourth in the shot put at 118-02.

“This was a tough meet,” head coach Jennifer Froemming said. “Most of the kids had to run and compete in weather that was unfavorable, combined with the fact that 11 teams were present. I am very proud of the number of student-athletes that stepped up and didn’t let the weather impact them. It also gave us a good look at what other teams in our conference and subsection look like, and what we need to overcome in the next month and a half to be successful.”
