The scent of cigarette smoke and a damaged wood door alarmed a woman Tuesday night when she arrived at her home on the 1200 Block of County Road 22. The Alexandria Police Department received a call at 7:45 p.m. on April 10 to investigate and clear the building.
Officers found Jerald Montrel Lowe, 25, from Tennessee hiding under a bed in the home with a loaded .22 caliber handgun. Lowe was arrested for burglary, because of previous criminal history he was charged as a felon in possession of a firearm. No one was home at the time of the incident.
Police believe this was not a random burglary as the resident of the house and Lowe knew one another. Lowe is being held at the Douglas County Jail awaiting formal charges.
