The Cardinal boys’ hockey team handed out its season-ending awards recently and named senior Garrett Skinner the team’s most valuable player.

Skinner did a little bit of everything for this team, but was primarily asked to anchor a relatively young blue line. He also finished as the team’s best scorer with 31 points on 14 goals and 17 assists.

Fellow seniors Jordan Domine and Charlie Wensman were given the Mr. Hustle Award at the banquet. Both players put together solid final seasons in an Alexandria uniform as Domine finished with 26 points and Wensman had 20. Wensman’s 13 goals were second on the team behind Skinner.

Sophomore Andrew Rentschler was named the team’s most improved player. Rentschler had a goal and two assists this season and will be looked upon to help lead this team into next winter.

The Cardinals had three players earn their way onto the All-Central Lakes Conference team. Domine, Skinner and goaltender Ben Allen were named to that list, while Wensman was an honorable-mention selection.

Skinner made the 1st team all-section team. Domine and Allen were named to the 2nd team and Wensman was an honorable-mention selection. Domine and Skinner were also named to the Great 8 Senior All-Star Game for the top players in Section 6A and 6AA.

Alexandria will graduate eight seniors off this team in Skinner, Domine, Wensman, Brock Wood, Bryce Miller, Jacob Hennessy, Jacob Smith and Erich Murphy. They helped the Cardinals finish with an overall record of 12-12-2 this season and third in the CLC at 8-6-2.
