The Cardinals’ Jesse Hacker set a new personal mark in the shot put on his way to a first-place finish. His toss of 51’9” was coupled with his second best throw of 51’6” to break a tie and win the event for Alexandria.
The 4x400-meter relay team picked up the other win for Alexandria on the day. Mitch Peck, Zac Bartholomeo, Phil Pham and Nathan Huss ran to first with a time of 3:40.38.
Alexandria also had three second-place finishes. Bartholomeo ran the 1,600 in 4:36.65, and Peck dropped 1.5 seconds off his 60-meter hurdles time to finish as the runner-up. The 4x100 team took second as Lee Klein, Huss, Peck and Pham finished in 46.33.
Sartell made it a clean sweep for the Sabres boys’ and girls’ teams by taking first at the event with a team score of 115.5. Willmar was second with 85 points and Brainerd rounded out the top three with 76.5.
“The conference this year seems to have a lot of balance with each school having specific strengths,” head coach Jerry Amundson said. “Sartell won the competition with some impressive field event strengths in the jumping area. They won triple jump, high jump and pole vault, as well as some great distance performances.”
Alexandria will have some practice time now before getting back in action on April 13. The Cardinals will travel to the Moorhead Invitational at Concordia College that day.
