Knowledge Bowl teams to advance

The Alexandria Cardinal Knowledge Bowl teams competed in the first round of post-season competition on Tuesday, March 13 at the Fergus Falls Community College.

All the schools in the region are divided into three groups, depending on size. Six teams from each group will advance to the region meet next week.

Alexandria entered four teams, competing in the large school group with Moorhead and Detroit Lakes.

The “Alex Amber” team finished 3rd overall, qualifying for regions. Team members include John Turner, Dalton Gusaas, Jade Mathre, Christian Thompson and Nick Schlapkohl.

The team was in 4th place after the written round, but averaged almost 13 points a round for the four oral rounds to miss 2nd place by a mere half point.

The “Alex Almond” team also qualified for regions by finishing 6th overall. Team members include Will Sieling, Will Reed, Kaci McCoy, Jenna Collins and Emi Smith. The team was in 8th place after the written round, jumped to 2nd after the first oral round, fell to 7th after the second oral round, jumped back to 3rd after the third oral round and then slid to 6th at the end.

Moorhead Melon: 112

Moorhead Mango: 93.5

Alex Amber: 93

DL Denim: 91.5

Moorhead Mauve: 88.5

Alex Almond: 88

Moorhead Maroon: 84.5

Moorhead Maize: 76.5

Alex Agate: 75.5

Alex Apple: 47

The region meet took place yesterday, Tuesday, also in Fergus Falls.
