A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. Reverend Denise Croskey will officiate. Jan Myhr will provide music. Interment will follow in the Finnish Apostolic Cemetery in Moe Township. Casket bearers include Michael Miner, Lee Miner, Larry Johnson, Neil Nelson, Bruce Boerner and Dean Kangas. Honorary casket bearers include Eldridge Rosell, Duwayne Rosell and all of Dale’s brothers-in-law. The American Legion Post 268 will accord military honors.
Dale George Miner was born January 11, 1930 in Alexandria, the son of George and Walborg (Johnson) Miner. Dale was raised and attended school in Alexandria.
After graduating from high school Dale enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a radar man on an aircraft flight crew. Dale was stationed aboard the USS Essex aircraft carrier. During the Korean War the Essex was stationed off the coast of Korea and Dale flew several missions over North and South Korea. Later Dale served in San Diego and Seattle as Shore Patrol. Dale served his country from 1947 to 1954.
While on leave from the Navy, Dale returned to Minnesota where he met Linda Josephson. They were united in marriage on April 24, 1952 at the Calvary Lutheran Parsonage in Alexandria. Over the next several years, Dale and Linda alternated their home between Minnesota and southern California. They were blessed with five children.
Dale held several different jobs over the years. In California, he worked at Rohr Aircraft. While he was with Rohr he helped work on the Mercury and Gemini Space Projects. In Chula Vista, Dale worked for a time as a traffic policeman. Dale and Linda lived in the Coon Rapids and Fridley areas of the Twin Cities for 30 years. He drove truck for several different companies and also worked as an independent trucker for many years. For nine years Dale worked for Hilltop Trailer Sales.
After Dale retired, he and Linda returned to the Alexandria area and made their home near Lake Oscar. Dale was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Vikingland Sams club and enjoyed going camping. He liked to work on his pickup trucks and enjoyed reading novels, especially westerns. He loved his dog, Lacey. Dale liked to tell stories and entertain his family. His children were very important to him and he loved spending time with them and with his grandkids. Most of all, Dale just loved to hang out with Linda.
Dale is survived by his wife, Linda Miner of Holmes City; two sons, Michael Miner and wife, Kathy, of Oak Grove and Lee Miner and wife, Ann, of East Bethel; three daughters, LuWanna Johnson, and husband, Larry, of Alexandria, DiAnn Nelson and husband, Neil Jr., of Coon Rapids, and Sara Boerner and husband, Bruce, of Holmes City; seven grandchildren, Kristopher Miner and wife Jenica, Alison Miner, Benjamin Miner, Jeffrey Nelson and wife, Ali, Nicholas Stachowski, Kenneth Stachowski and wife, Katie, Jamie Miner and Greg Miner; and four great grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Sofia and Blake.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Walborg Flora Miner.
