An 18-year-old Alexandria man was arrested in Todd County Thursday after leading deputies on a high-speed chase.
The incident began at 11:18 p.m. when sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding violation on Highway 71 north of Eagle Bend.
The driver, later identified as Leighton Edward Mindach, took off, accelerating at a higher rate of speed and a pursuit began, according to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities deployed stop sticks in Clarissa. The suspect drove over them and still continued on Highway 71 at a slower speed.
Deputies followed the vehicle through Browerville to the intersection of County Road 88. Deputies then performed a pursuit intervention technique on the suspect’s vehicle, spinning it into the ditch where the vehicle came to a stop.
The suspect then fled on foot across a plowed cornfield before deputies apprehended him.
Deputies later learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Bemidji in Beltrami County.
Mindach was being held at the Todd County Detention Center, pending charges.
