Speech team takes 3rd

In its sixth tournament of the season, the Alexandria Speech Team took on teams from Central Minnesota at Becker High School on Saturday, March 10.

There were three regular rounds and a final round for the top eight competitors in each category.

Seventh graders Kylee Johnson, Ian Heseltine, McKayla Petrie and sophomore Christa Wysoski also took part in a dance contest before the awards ceremony.

Following are the award winners form this meet:

Creative Expression: Mariah Lichty – 8th.

Drama: Mariah Lichty – 5th.

Extemporaneous Reading: Lydia Gusaas – honorable mention.

Great Speeches: Caroline Roers – 1st.

Humorous: Haley Wegner – 8th.

Prose: Isabelle Hartakolis – honorable mention.

As a team, Alexandria earned the 3rd place trophy in the Small Team category.

The team will compete in the previously postponed Central Lakes Conference tournament on Tuesday, March 13. On March 15, many of the team members will perform at the third annual Student Showcase at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria. Everyone is welcome to come and hear their presentations.
