Section 6A girls' basketball: Parkers Prairie falls short in bid for state berth

The Panthers were unable to stop Taylor Kujava, who posted a game-high 34 points

After setting the tone in the first half, the Parkers Prairie girls’ basketball team stumbled, allowing Ada-Borup to go on a 15-4 run with 10 minutes remaining.

That run, sparked by Taylor Kujava, was a game changer, and the Cougars rolled on to a 71-58 win over the Panthers in the Section 6A championship at the University of Minnesota-Morris Friday night, sending Ada-Borup back to the state Class A tournament.

The Panthers were the stronger squad in the first half, hitting nearly every shot they threw at the basket, including critical three-pointers as the Cougars clogged the lane to keep Parkers Prairie from driving.

But Ada-Borup made the necessary adjustments and forced the Panthers to foul in the second half. The Cougars stepped up to that challenge, hitting 25 of 31 attempts in the game, including 18 of 19 in the third quarter alone.

The recipient of most of those attempts was Kujava, who was perfect at the line in the second half, hitting all 12 of her opportunities. Kujava, a senior, finished the night with 34 points.

The Panthers, who finished the season with a 27-3 overall record, were led by Micaela Noga’s 16 points. Madison Dorn had 14, Kaylee Dorn 12 and Tamara Schmidt 11.

The Panthers lose two starters to graduation this season in Tamara Schmidt and Kaylee Dorn.
