Cherry Street Books in Alexandria will host author Jess Lourey for a book signing on Friday, March 9 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Lourey, a former Alexandria resident, has just released November Hunt, the seventh book in her Murder-by-the-Month series.
All the stories are set in the Battle Lake area and feature investigator Mira James. Publisher's Weekly said the book successfully combines humor, an intriguing mystery and quirky small town characters.
Don Shelby, retired WCCO Television news anchor, has written a book of stories of life lessons learned from the game of basketball.
The Season Never Ends – Wins, Losses, and the Wisdom of the Court, was published last fall.
Shelby will be at Cherry Street Books, 503 Broadway in downtown Alexandria, for a book signing beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14.
The book includes stories Shelby has written over a number of years that reflect his experiences and love for the game of basketball.
Minnesota author Will Weaver said, "These stories are heartfelt and well-turned, but basketball is only their setting. Don's real subject is the richness of life and the lessons learned – if only we step up and take our shot."
The book includes a mention of Shelby’s good friend, Tom Vickerman, late local basketball coach and teacher.
Shelby will be speaking at the opening session of the spring season at the Alexandria Technical and Community College’s Senior College the following day.
Books will also be available at that event.
