Former State Senator Dan Skogen announced this week that he will be seeking the DFL endorsement for Minnesota’s new Senate District 8.
If he gets the endorsement, he would be running against Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria.
District 8 includes most of the city of Alexandria – 10,415 residents – and nearly half of the eastern portion of the county.
Skogen served four years in the state senate beginning in 2007, as the senator from District 10, which included all of Otter Tail and Wadena counties and part of Becker County. While in the Senate, Skogen served on the education, agriculture, veterans, commerce and environment committees.
“I look forward to the challenge of the campaign,” said Skogen, “and getting to know the hard working people of Douglas County. I enjoyed my time in the Senate, especially the work on constituent issues.”
Skogen, who works in Wadena as a radio sports broadcaster, added he’s looking forward to the challenges of the endorsement, the campaign and work in St. Paul.
“Public service is not easy work, but the process is important and I look forward to bringing my common sense approach of getting things done back to the Senate for the people of this area,” Skogen said. “While moving Minnesota forward in critical areas of job creation, education, agriculture and the environment.”
Skogen and his wife, Dee, live west of Hewitt on a hobby farm. Their adult sons live in North Carolina and California.
