Section 6A-South girls' basketball: West Central Area's season ends in overtime
The West Central Area girls’ basketball team saw their season abruptly ended in a 63-61 overtime loss to Wheaton-Herman-Norcross in the Section 6A South quarterfinals last Thursday.
The Knights rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second half to tie the game at 55 apiece. Jen Froemming was a big part of that as she finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kelsey Hammer added 11 points and five assists and Christina Kruize finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
“This was a really devastating loss for the girls,” head coach Beth Hanson said. “They gave it their all, and I am immensely proud of their efforts. They played with pride and a lot of heart. It is important for the girls to remember that they put in a great season. The final outcome is definitely not what they desire, but the journey is truly the important part. They have a lot to be proud of.”
The Knights finished the seasons 15-10 and 11-5 in their first year in the Prairie Conference.
