Dagmar Hedvig Foslien, 93, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Peaceful Bliss Assisted Living in Alexandria, with her loving family by her side.
Dagmar Hedvig Foslien, 93, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Peaceful Bliss Assisted Living in Alexandria, with her loving family by her side.
Dagmar was born September 29, 1918 in Melby, the daughter of Anders Gustaf Johnson and Anne Birgetti (Bjorgan) Johnson. She began teaching in country schools shortly after her high school graduation and one year of normal training. Two of the schools she taught at were Spruce Hill and Holmes City District 29.
Dagmar put her career on hold when she met and married Orrin Alfred Foslien Sr. They were married April 5, 1939. To this union three children were born, Anita, Orrin Jr. “Tonsy” and Susan. After the children were grown, Dagmar went back to college and earned her BS degree and MS degree with honors. She resumed her teaching career at Pocket Lake and Garfield School District 206.
Among her many interests were music, reading, entertaining, St. Luke’s Church Ladies Circle, Garfield Senior Club and her loving family. She began writing children’s stories in retirement, and Parker Bros. published three of her stories in their “Rose Petal Place” series.
Whether you called her Mom, Dagmar, Dag, Daggie or teacher – she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her three children, Anita (Robert) Correa of San Francisco, CA, Orrin Jr. “Tonsy” (Carol) Foslien of Garfield, Susan (Keith) McCoy of San Francisco, CA and Garfield; grandchildren, Adina (Justin) Bilbao, Heidi (Henry) Ramirez, Robert Correa Jr., David (Kristen) Correa, Orrin III (Janine) Foslien, all of California, Andrew (Tammy) Foslien of MI, Lauren Foslien of WA; great-grandchildren, Michael Bilbao, Julian Bilbao, Paloma Ramirez, Georgina Ramirez, Hugh Ramirez, Rachel Foslien, Madeline Foslien; and brother, Leonard (Barbara) Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin Sr.; brothers, Harold Johnson, Einar O. Johnson; and sister, Agnes V. Holm.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 25 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield. Burial was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Pallbearers were Ronald Holm, Eric Johnson, Brian Johnson, Rayne Brandt, Roger Chlian, John Chlian, Mark Chlian and Dwayne Hanson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Sunday School.
