Cardinal swimmers advance to state

The Cardinal swimmers advanced three individuals and two relays to the State Class A swimming and diving meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center this Friday after competing at the Section 3A championships.

Kris Aaseng was the 500 free champion as he swam the event in 4:52.88, then earned runner-up honors in the 200 free in 1:48.79.

Aaron Pietrowski finished third in the 500 free in 5:12.81 to advance, and Elliot Jacobson advanced by qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke, despite swimming in the consolation finals.

The 200 free relay of Eric Moe, Kyle Blank, Max Jacobson and Aaseng finished sixth, but qualified by time, and the 400 free relay of Moe, Zach Cahlin, Austin McCulloch and Aaseng finished fourth to also advance.

The Cardinals were third overall as a team, falling in behind defending champion Fergus Falls and second place Detroit Lakes.
