B-E girls' basketball: Chargers fall in overtime
Brandon-Evansville was forced to settle for a second-place tie in the Little Eight Conference after an overtime loss to Battle Lake.
The Brandon-Evansville girls’ basketball team couldn’t overcome a 28-percent shooting night in a 47-42 loss in overtime at Battle Lake.
The Chargers were almost able to sneak out of there with a win. They had the ball with 14 seconds left in regulation with a chance to win it but a travel turned the ball back over to Battle Lake.
The Chargers never scored in overtime. Battle Lake got a field goal and added free throws late in the extra session to secure the win.
“We just couldn’t make a shot,” head coach Dick Simpson said. “We had mistakes executing at the end. We had our chances.”
Heather Strese scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Chargers. Megan Friedrich added eight points and Megan Kokett scored five. Nicole Rilla led the Battlers with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
The loss wrapped up Brandon-Evansville’s Little Eight Conference schedule with an 8-4 record. The Chargers tied for second place in league play with Underwood. They beat the Rockets twice this season.
