Card girls' hockey: Road trip brings home pair of victories
Game four of Alexandria’s six-game road trip found the Cardinals in Bemidji, and saw the girls trail at the half 23-21 before making a second half rally to defeat the Lumberjacks 56-45.
“The Cards seemed out of sync the entire first half and went into the locker room trailing for only the third time this season,” said head coach Wendy Kohler.
“Sometimes, you just have to find a way to get things done,” she added. “Some nice adjustments by the Cards and we went on a nice 10-0 run to stretch the lead and get out of Bemidji with our 17th victory on the season.”
A big part of that victory was once again Lauren Trumm, who poured in 27 points and added nine steals and three assists in the game.
Three of those steals came during that run as Trumm turned three consecutive Lumberjack turnovers into fast break points.
Whitney Gesell also reached double figures with 12 points, and Kalli Bowser led the rebounding with nine.
Next on the agenda for the Cardinals will be a contest at Detroit Lakes tomorrow, Thursday, before the girls come home to host Rocori on Friday. They played at St. Cloud Apollo last night, Tuesday.
