Card boys' swimming and diving: Aaseng sets new CLC mark

Alexandria was fifth in the conference final standings

A new Sartell pool and a Central Lakes Conference record set by Cardinal junior Kris Aaseng paved the way for the Cardinals’ fifth place finish at the Central Lakes Conference swimming and diving championships Saturday.

Aaseng swam to first in the 500 freestyle in 4:54.79 for that new mark, and also finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.99.

Both of those top finishes gave him CLC All-Conference honors.

Joining him on the All-Conference team was Elliot Jacobson, who finished third in the 100 breaststroke.

In all, the Cardinals had 11 top-eight finishes, including two by Austin McCulloch, Mark Kallevig and Eric Moe to go along with Aaseng’s two.
