Card Nordic skiing: Sieling skis to state

Alexandria’s Julia Sieling will be making a repeat appearance at the State Nordic ski meet after finishing 12th in the Section 8 competition at Maplelag Resort near Detroit Lakes.
Sieling, who finished 105th in last year’s state event, will head back to Giants Ridge in Biwabik Thursday.
“Both teams had a good day,” said head coach Luke Erickson, “and Julia earned a trip to state with a 12th place finish in the 10k pursuit.”
Melissa Gromatka finished 21st for the girls, with Becca Matteer 44th, Lauren Hagstrom 45th, Natalie Watkins 55th, Adrianne Wensman 57th and Hailey Haugen 60th.
The boys’ team was led by Cody Call in 26th, Pat Flynn in 40th, Carl Branch 49th, Eric Branch 52nd, Daniel Finazzo 62nd, Chase Redmond 68th and Sitka Corage 71st.
The Cardinal girls finished eighth overall with 275 points, while the boys were ninth with 246.
Brainerd and Little Falls won the boys’ and girls’ team titles.
