Weisel joined the Girl Scouts at age 5 and achieved many badges and honors as she crossed each bridge through the program – Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Senior/Ambassadors.
As a Junior Girl Scout, she received the Bronze Award by making quilts for a shelter in Turkey. As a Cadette, she achieved the Silver Award when she did a summer reading program for elementary girls.
Weisel began a two-year journey toward the Gold Award while serving on the Girls Scouts of Minnesota Lakes and Pines board of directors.
After losing her grandmother to ovarian cancer, she began a project to help families in medical crises and to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.
She presented and participated in many activities in the community, with the culmination being a presentation at a girls’ swim meet on October 6.
