Alex girls' basketball: Cardinals top Tech

Alexandria put three players in double figures in a win over the Tigers.

Alexandria improved to 15-3 with a 54-46 win over St. Cloud Tech Friday night, planting them firmly in second place in the Central Lakes Conference behind undefeated Fergus Falls.

“We hit the floor mentally locked in to the game plan and settled into our game immediately, which is so important on the road,” said Cardinal head coach Wendy Kohler. “Our concentration on both ends of the floor and execution was sharp for the most part.

“The transition game set the tempo and our defense frustrated the Tigers, forcing them to throw several passes on most possessions to get the look they wanted,” she added.

Alexandria’s Lauren Trumm once again led all players, dropping in 17 points, while teammate Kalli Bowser added 12 and Amanda Christianson 10.

“Bowser and Gesell flexed their muscle in the paint with aggressive post moves, attacking the basket, and as a result, we drew some big fouls on the Tiger posts throughout the first half,” Kohler noted. “The coaching staff was pleased with our balance in our perimeter/post game.’

Alexandria will be at Willmar tomorrow, Thursday, and at Bemidji on Saturday.

They are now 15-3 on the season and 10-2 in CLC play.
