Leslie Robert Radil, 80, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis.
Leslie was born March 17, 1931 in Lake Mary Township, the son of Frank and Lillian (Muzik) Radil. He attended country school and worked with his father on the family homesteaded farm. He met the love of his life, Ramona Zimmel, at a dance in Brandon. They were united in marriage on April 26, 1954 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. Les and Ramona moved to Washington, D.C. after they were married to finish his service to the United States Army. They moved back to the family farm in Lake Mary Township after he was discharged from the Army and continued to farm for the rest of his life.
Les and Ramona raised five children, Max, Mark, Lee, Dean and Connie. He taught his children how to farm and work hard. Traveling with Ramona, playing cards, and taking his children and grandchildren out to the woods to hunt, or to the lake to fish were some of Les’s pleasures in life. Les hunted near Baudette since the 1950s. He loved the area so well that Les and family members Rod Karrow, Mark, Lee and Dean purchased the hunting land they call Miller Creek Camp in November 2005. Les was a well-liked man who was known for his farming, punctuality and his ability to visit with anyone he would meet.
Les was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, where he served on the church council. He also served as treasurer on the Lake Mary Township Board for about 20 years. He was member of the Lowry American Legion and ZCBJ Lodge. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ramona Radil of Alexandria; sons, Max (Lyla) Radil of Alexandria, Mark (Marilyn) Radil of Alexandria, Lee (Beth) Radil of Alexandria, Dean (Judy) Radil of Alexandria; daughter, Connie (Kevin) Klimek of Glenwood; 12 grandchildren, Matthew (Rachael) Radil of Alexandria, Melinda (Gary) Fults of Brandon, Dwight (Veronica) Radil of Eagle Bend, Darren Radil of Alexandria, Josh (Elizabeth) Radil of Milbank, SD, Andy (Alison) Radil of Alexandria, Robby Radil of Alexandria, Whitney Radil of Alexandria, Sam Radil of Alexandria, Katie (Brian) Jenks of Starbuck, Alicia Klimek of Glenwood, and Jacob Klimek of Glenwood; five great-grandchildren, James Vance, Mariah Fults, Evan Radil, Ethan Radil and Austin Webber; sisters, Ruth Roers of Millerville, Dorothy (Mike) Dunn of Alexandria, and Carol (Rod) Karrow of Alexandria; nieces and nephews.
