Ronald Ray Gore, 72, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Alexandria, died January 25, 2012.
He was born in Clay County, Indiana on September 26, 1939.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lois; daughter, Alisa Kometz and her husband, Gary; son, Phillip Gore; sister, JoAnn Phillips; and grandson, Matthew Kometz. His large extended family included many nieces and nephews. Each will always remember him as their favorite uncle.
Ron joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 after graduating from high school in Jasonville, Indiana. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving his country until 1967. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1969.
He set up the Hydraulics and Pneumatics program at Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria and served as a program instructor for 27 years. He was active in the Fluid Power Society and was named the National Fluid Power Teacher of the Year. He was a sponsor in Vocational Industrial Club of America (VICA) for many years. Ron’s students now span the country and are successful in a variety of industries.
Ron excelled at everything he tried. He enjoyed singing and belonged to the Vikingland Chordsmen in Alexandria and Gulf Coast Sandpipers in Bradenton, Florida. A lifelong hobbyist, he enjoyed woodworking, framing and matting, boating, fishing, leatherworking, and many others. His most recent creations were special one-of-a-kind, handmade jewelry that will be treasured by friends and family.
No local services will be held. Dates are pending for a celebration of life memorial service for Ron next summer in Minnesota and in Indiana.
