Card gymnastics: Alexandria sets school record despite loss to Eagles
Despite setting a school record in one event, Alexandria’s run of victories fell just short Tuesday night as the Cardinal gymnasts couldn’t get past St. Cloud Apollo in a 143.225-138.825 loss.
“The Cardinals started off on bars and hit five-for-five in their routines,” said head coach Becca Cederberg.
Briquelle Bowden led the way as she tied with eventual all-around champion Kate Schneider of St. Cloud Apollo as both posted scores of 8.975.
“They next went to vault where Hannah Wendel took fourth place with her handspring full [8.825] and Briquelle Bowden took third with her handspring full [8.9].
“[On] the next event, the Cardinals really shined,” she said. “The gymnasts had a season best of 36.3 for that event, which is also a new school record.
“The last event was beam and Katlin Rice started the group off with a stick and a personal best of 8.2.
“Briquelle placed fifth on beam with an 8.275 and Tahlia Bowden tied for second with a personal best 9.4.”
Alexandria will be at Melrose next Monday before hosting the Central Lakes Conference championships on Saturday, February 11.
