Area girls' basketball: Osakis, Parkers Prairie, WCA win
Osakis had a hard time breaking away from a feisty Royalton team Friday night, edging the Royals 44-35 in Prairie Conference girls’ basketball.
“We really struggled scoring against Royalton,” said head coach Pat Kalpin. “You have to give them [Royalton] credit, they were hustling defensively and forcing a lot of turnovers because of our indecisiveness on the offensive end.
“The girls put themselves in great positions to score; they just didn’t recognize them quick enough.
“We need to get the girls to play more instinctive offensively and play loose,” he added. “We played well defensively. That’s how we won this game tonight.”
Annalise Savageau led all scorers as she knocked down 26 points and was the only Silverstreak player in double figures.
The Silverstreaks were 11-6 after the win, 9-1 in Prairie Conference action, just one-half game behind unbeaten Upsala. They played at home against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Monday and will be at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle tomorrow, Thursday. They then host Benson next Monday night.
