A veteran Lumberjack hockey team handed Alexandria a 5-1 loss Saturday on the road as the Cardinals struggled to find their way offensively at Bemidji.
“The Lumberjacks are a senior loaded team with a lot of speed,” said Cardinal head coach Scott Woods. “They will likely contend with Moorhead for the 8AA section title. They lost to them in overtime earlier in the year.
“We got down 3-0 after the first, but hung in there for the next two periods.
“I continue to be impressed with this [Cardinal] team when they get down,” Woods said. “There is no giving up. The final two periods were 2-1 for a final of 5-1.”
Brock Wood finally got the Cardinals on the board at the 15:57 mark in the second period with Alexandria down 4-0.
“Brock scored the only goal with a great pass from Kevin Finley,” said the coach.
“I am thrilled to know there is a good chance we will return three players to the line-up (for last night’s game at Little Falls in a section battle). It will be great to have some guys back to give us some much-needed depth.
“Hopefully, we stay healthy and are able to get some consistency back in the year of injuries.”
