Nine wins in 11 events made smooth sailing for the Cardinal swimming and diving team Thursday night as they floated to a 114.5-71.5 win over St. Cloud Apollo.

Not only did the Redbirds win nine events, they outscored the Eagles nine times along the way and swept all three relays.

Kris Aaseng was the winner of two events as he claimed the 200 IM in 2:16.30 and the 100 free in 52.25, while Austin McCulloch notched wins in the 50 free in 25.17 and the 500 free in 5:29.09. Aaseng and McCulloch were also part of the winning 200 free and 400 free relays, along with Zach Cahlin and Eric Moe in both events.

Moe earned a win in the 200 free in 1:58.21 and John Vinje took top honors in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.23.

The 200 medley relay team included Zac Bartolomeo, Elliot Jacobson, Mark Kallevig and Cahlin.

Moe also bettered his time in both the 200 free and the 100 fly, events he doesn’t normally compete in.

“With less stiff competition, several Cardinals were afforded the chance to try something new for a change of pace,” said head coach Mark Storhaug.

Alexandria will host Fergus Falls tomorrow, Thursday, in the final dual meet of the season that is also Parents’ Night.
