Alex danceline: Cards place three on All-CLC jazz, kick squads

The Cardinal dance team put in an admirable performance at the Central Lakes Conference championships Saturday in Sauk Rapids, with the kick team finishing fifth and the jazz team seventh.

“It was a great day for the Cardinals,” said head coach Christine Reilly. “The kick team had their highest place finish in the CLC since the conference began holding dance team meets.

“The team had a great performance. In the past three weeks, they have competed three times and each time have made significant improvements.

“Most notable on Saturday were their kicks,” said Reilly. “They were flying.”

That performance provided Alexandria with three All-conference selections as Emily Haan, Jessa Kokett and Alexis Kokett were named All-CLC, while Samantha Winther and Jana Roste received honorable mention.

“The [jazz] team has a fun routine and enjoys doing it, but at this time in the season, they are all focusing more on kick, which is their strength,” Reilly said of the squad’s seventh place finish.

Alexandria also had three from the jazz squad receive All-conference honors – Alexis Kokett, Jana Roste and Jessa Kokett – with Lauren Engebretson and Madison Groettum receiving honorable mention.

“Overall, the team was sixth in the conference for the 2011-2012 season,” noted the coach. “Points are accumulated throughout the season at all CLC meets, and then totaled to determine the conference champion and placements for the year.”

Sartell earned their first ever season Central Lakes Conference championship, taking top honors in the kick division at the championships. St. Cloud Tech won the jazz division at the championships.
