Dirck named PING regional club fitter
Alexandria’s Scott Dirck, golf pro at the Geneva Golf Club, was named the 2011 PING regional club fitter of the year.
This is Dirck’s second PING honor. He was named the regional club fitter of the year in 2008 as well, and was named the PGA teacher of the year in 2010.
The company, which pioneered custom fitting nearly 40 years ago, recognized Dirck for his commitment to helping golfers of all abilities improve their games through custom fittings.
Dirck was nominated by Jamey Dunlap, the regional PING field representative.

teen night
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Alexandria Area YMCA will hold a teen night Friday, February 3 at the YMCA from 7-9 p.m. for middle school students and 9-11 p.m. for high school students.
Activities will include dodgeball, swimming Wii or Xbox games. Pizza and pop will be provided.
Cost is $2 to cover the cost of the pizza.
Bean bag toss
tourney in Ashby
The Ashby sports boosters will hold a bean bag toss tournament on Saturday, January 28 at the Ashby High School gym.
The fundraiser will run from noon to 5 p.m. with teams of two competing against each other.
There will also be a hog roast dinner served by the football program and includes barbecue pork sandwiches, beverage, side and dessert.
Park Region Conference wrestling tourney
The Park Region Conference wrestling tournament will be Friday, February 3 at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School in Long Prairie.
Varsity tournament action begins at 10 a.m.
All-Star traveling baseball team
The Satchel Paige All-Stars traveling baseball team is looking for youth players ages 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 years old that would like to be a part of the 2012 summer team that will include trips to Cincinnati, Ohio, Omaha, Nebraska, Springfield, Missouri, Orlando, Florida and Puerto Rico.

Pacesetter tournaments set
The Pacesetter Region 6 playoffs for Minnesota Youth Basketball state championships will be held at Hillcrest Academy in Fergus Falls and Frazee High School March 31 and April 14.
The tournaments are for girls’ teams in grades 5-9, with the Region 6 champions being invited to the eight team Minnesota state championship in St. Cloud.

Lakes Area Recreation 35-older open gym will run through the middle of April on Sundays from 7-9 p.m. at the Discovery Middle School gym.

YMCA offers winter youth baseball events
The Alexandria Area YMCA will offer an extended winter youth baseball program. Hitting leagues, pitching clinics, and open gyms, complete with batting cages will be available for area baseball youth.
The YMCA pitching clinic focuses on the fundamentals of pitching mechanics, delivery, control, arm strength, and age appropriate pitches. This clinic is a great way to learn the basics of pitching, or fine tune skills to prepare for the spring season. The clinic will utilize the YMCA professional pitching mounds. The program begins Sunday, March 4.
The indoor hitting league will begin Sunday, February 5, with teams of four players competing against each other.
The YMCA indoor batting cage is available for member and non-member reservations January through March, Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. For more information, contact Jeff at (320) 834-9622.
Montevideo basketball tournament
The 17th annual Montevideo Youth Basketball Tournament for boys and girls in grades 5-8 is March 16-17 with three games guaranteed.
The 8th grade girls’ tournament will be played Friday night.
Entry deadline is Friday, March 2.
There is also a 4th grade boys’ and girls’ jamboree on Friday night with a guarantee of two games.

Lakes Area Recreation open swim is now available Sundays at the Discovery Middle School pool and is open to both youth and adults from 1-3 p.m.
Hours may vary due to holidays or organized events.
Children that cannot touch the bottom of the pool or cannot swim must be directly accompanied in the water by an adult.
