Card gymnastics: State-ranked gymnasts eighth at True Team

The Cardinal gymnastics team was one of just 10 Class A schools invited to the State True Team meet, and the No. 8 ranked squad finished in a tie for eighth.

New Prague, ranked No. 2 in the Class A polls, finished first, while No. 1 ranked Melrose was second.

“What an exciting weekend for the Cardinal gymnasts,” said head coach Becca Cederberg. “It is such an honor to be invited to a meet like this, as only the top 10 schools in single A are invited.

“This meet is scored different than other meets,” she added. “They have the five girls compete and take all five scores. In normal meets, you would drop the lowest score and take only the top four.

“Also, in this meet, they do not do any individual placement, because it is truly about the team.”

The Cardinals had some excellent scores as Tahlia Bowden led the Redbirds in the beam, vault and floor with scores of 9.275, 9.175 and 9.3 respectivly. Briquelle Bowden paced Alexandria on the bars with an 8.55.

Rounding out the top 10 are Melrose in first, New Prague second, Perham third, Big Lake fourth, Detroit Lakes fifth, Austin sixth, Jackson County Central seventh, Becker ninth and Willmar 10th.
