Card Nordic skiing: Alexandria girls second in invitational

The Cardinals boys' team was fourth

The Alexandria Nordic ski teams got their home meet in on Tuesday afternoon at Andes Tower Hills in a meet that saw St. Cloud teams take first in both the boys and girls varsity events.

Cathedral-Sartell finished in front of Alexandria for first place in the girls’ classic race. The Cardinals’ Julia Sieling finished third individually in a time of 16:20, while teammate Melissa Gromatka was a second behind her in fourth. Becca Mateer was 10th (17:44), Lauren Hagstrom 22nd (19:18) and Natalie Watkins 29th (20:09) to round out the scoring for the Cardinal girls.

The Alexandria boys came in fourth out of a six-team field. Cody Call led the way with a 10th-place finish in a time of 14:49. Pat Flynn was a second behind him in 11th place, while Carl Branch (15:46) and Eric Branch (15:51) finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Dan Finazzo also raced and finished in a time of 16:39.

St. Cloud Tech got the win on the boys’ side. Buffalo was second and Cathedral-Sartell rounded out the top three.

The home meet for Alexandria was a tune-up for the Central Lakes Conference meet, which is set to take place in St. Cloud on February 2.
