A slippery Monday keeps troopers busy; 295 crashes reported

The Minnesota State Patrol had a busy Monday throughout the state. Some areas were busier than others with weather related activity.

Troopers responded to 295 crashes – 39 of those involved injuries and two of those were state troopers who were hit and injured while inside their squad car while attending to other crashes. Troopers also responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 90 near Luverne at approximately 5 p.m. A vehicle being driven by Joseph Dunn, 29 years of age from Garretson, South Dakota ran off the road. Dunn was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected and killed.

Troopers also kept active providing assistance to an additional 346 vehicles that had slid off the road requiring tow assistance.

“Weather related crashes have been fewer this winter, but this is Minnesota and we always need to be prepared," said Sergeant Jesse Grabow with the State Patrol. "Slow down and drive according to the conditions and always wear your seat belt. Crashes are preventable.”
