Card boys' swimming and diving: Alexandria fifth at State True Team

In their first ever State Class A True Team meet, the Cardinal boys’ swimming and diving team finished fifth overall in the field of six champions and six wild card squads, with St. Thomas Academy grabbing its eighth straight title.

Kris Aaseng posted two of the Cardinals’ 10 top-16 finishes for the meet, coming in third in the 200 free and second in the 500 free, while Elliot Jacobson was eighth in diving and 10th in the 100 breaststroke.

Austin McCulloch also had a pair of top-16 finishes, placing 12th in the 200 free and 14th in the 500 free. Max Jacobson was 11th in the 100 butterfly, Mark Kallevig 10th in the 100 butterfly and Eric Moe 12th in the 100 free.

Alexandria also had 19 season bests, including two each from Aaseng, McCulloch, Aaron Pietrowski, Kallevig, Zac Bartolomeo, Kyle Pietrowski and Spencer Brand.

“The biggest improvements were seen from McCulloch, as he dropped three seconds in the 200 free and another 10 in the 500 free,” said head coach Mark Storhaug. “Aaron Pietrowski lowered his best in the 200 free by three seconds and by over five in the 500 free, [and] younger brother, Kyle Pietrowski, sliced five seconds from his 200 IM and over seven in the 400 free. Max Jacobson shaved two seconds in the 100 fly.”

Alexandria has St. Cloud Apollo on the schedule tomorrow, Thursday, on the road.
