Alpine skiing: Brink, Gieseke lead team
The Boys' team was seventh overall in the second meet this year
In just their second race of the season, the Lakes Area Alpine ski boys’ team finished seventh at Giants Ridge in Biwabik on Saturday as they competed in a field of 12 teams.
The two girls on the squad – Katie Gieseke and Madison Neulieb – placed 34th and 64th respectively in the field of 70 skiers.
Wolfgang Brink led the way for the boys’ team with a 10th place finish in 1:19:03 as he competed against 85 other boy skiers.
“We had a few racers that had issues on their second runs, but they will make the adjustments for the next race, and will continue to improve,” said head coach Matthew Brunkow.
Alexandria students Gieseke and Trevor Standskov are part of the Lakes Area team that includes skiers from Fergus Falls, West Central Area, Herman-Norcross, Wheaton and Chokio-Alberta.
Lakes Area will now compete at Welch Village today, Friday.
