Card wrestling: Mike Murphy appreciation night set

Thursday, January 19, will be designated as appreciation night for the Mike Murphy Memorial Fund during Alexandria’s home wrestling dual with Fergus Falls

Murphy, a Cardinal wrestler in the early 1980s, was a fan favorite who recorded a 63-9-2 career record, capping his high school career with the 1982 runner-up trophy at heavyweight

The former Cardinal passed away unexpectedly last year at the home of his parents, Ron and Sandy Murphy, who asked that memorials be given to the Alexandria wrestling activity fund in honor of Mike’s love for the sport

Funds from the memorial have been used to purchase new singlets for the wrestling team, and have the initials MM embroidered on the back in honor of Murphy. They will be worn during for the first time at the dedication

Anyone with memories of Murphy is encouraged to attend the appreciation event
