The Cardinal gymnastics team set a season-best score of 136.2 on December 30, and Tuesday night, they did even better, setting a new school record of 139.575 and defeating the visiting Moorhead Spuds.

“The night started off with all the girls exploding off the vault,” said head coach Becca Cederberg. “Tahlia Bowden led the Cardinals with a 9.375 and took first.

“High flying vaults also came from Hannah Wendel, second place with an 8.95, captain Sarah Dolan with an 8.85 for fourth place, Anna Spanbauer with an 8.6 for seventh place and Rachel Sjostrand with an 8.475 for eighth place.”

The Cardinals then picked up first, second and third places on the bars as junior captain Briquelle Bowden led the team with an 8.95, eighth grader T. Bowden was second and Wendel third.

“Bria Schueler also helped round out the Cardinal bar score with her 7.975 for seventh,” said Cederberg.

On the beam, the Cardinals picked up the first and second on performances by B. Bowden and T. Bowden.

“We had a couple really nice sticks from Bria, [who was] seventh with a 7.8, Briquelle, second with an 8.6 and Tahlia, first with an 8.9,” noted the coach.

Alexandria rounded out its evening on floor, picking up second, third and fifth places.

“”It was a great place to shine,” said Cederberg. “Briquelle, coming back from knee surgery only a few months ago, is making huge leaps and bounds in her recovery. She rocked floor with an 8.65 for sixth.”

The Cardinals picked up three personal bests in that event as well, as Wendel was second with a 9.425, T. Bowden third with a 9.375 and Dolan fifth with an 8.95.

The successful night gave T. Bowden first place in the all-around with a 36.425, while Wendel was third with 34.775 and Dolan sixth with a 31.5.

“The girls have been setting some high goals for themselves,” said Cederberg, “and tonight’s meet is just the start of watching those dreams become real.”
