Streets, sidewalks and appointments highlight Alexandria City Council meeting

Two major street and sidewalk projects in Alexandria advanced Monday night.

At its first meeting of the new year, the Alexandria City Council approved agreements for a “Safe Routes to School” project near Lincoln Elementary and a state project to pave a section of Broadway this summer.

--Appointments to city boards and commissions in 2012.

--A matching grant to purchase a suction cup glass mover and a forklift to install glass panels at the Runestone Community Center.

--Designating the official newspaper of the city and the 20 financial institutions as the city’s official depositories for 2012.

--The city’s corporate agreement with UBS Financial Services in Minneapolis.

--Meeting dates for 2012.

--Designating elected and appointed officials as city employees.

--A request for the city to subordinate a local company's existing loan.
