Living Word Lutheran Church building plan approved

Members of Living Word Lutheran Church (LWLC) of Alexandria have approved a comprehensive building plan to house the congregation’s worship, educational and administrative facilities.

The complex will be built on property the congregation owns on McKay Avenue in southeast Alexandria.

Members of the congregation participated in a detailed design concept study to define a structure that promotes advancement of the congregation’s mission.

The design features a sanctuary that seats 375, a fellowship hall, and an administrative office area tied together by a narthex on the main level.

The gentle slope of the building site favors a lower level that will house classrooms, library and support areas, with a walkout to an outdoor patio and amphitheater.

The congregation has chosen an exterior look reminiscent of a traditional country church. JLG Architects of Alexandria is the design firm.

It is anticipated that construction will occur in two phases. The fellowship hall, lower level classroom area and administrative areas will be finished in the first phase, with the sanctuary following later.

Fundraising and detailed planning for the project are under way. The construction start date will be determined at the congregation’s annual meeting in January. A link to the plan can be found on the congregation’s website, www.livingwordalexmn.org.

LWLC is affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, an association of congregations who are free in Christ, accountable to one another and rooted in the scriptures and the Lutheran confessions.

LWLC currently worships Sunday mornings at Holiday Inn, 5637 Highway 29 South, Alexandria. Information and schedules are available on the congregation’s website or by calling the church office at (320) 762-1997.
