Card dance team: Alexandria comes up short

The Cardinal girls’ dance team came up just short in its dual meet against Sauk Rapids-Rice during halftime of the girls’ basketball game on Tuesday night.

The Alexandria dancers finished with a team score of 127 to the Storm’s 136. Sauk Rapids had to overcome a slight hurdle when the music stopped in the middle of its routine. After starting over, the Storm did just enough to get past the Cardinals for a Central Lakes Conference win.

“The Cardinals started off strong but began to lose momentum with a string of mistakes,” head coach Christine Reilly said. “Despite the many mistakes, the Cardinals still lost by just nine points.

“Senior Jessa Kokett had an outstanding performance. She has worked hard to improve the height of her kicks and continues to excel in her execution of the routine. These skills combined with her poise and confidence make her a great competitor.”

The dual meet provided a tune-up for the Cardinals before they host their Alexandria Invite on January 7. The competition will start at 10:30 a.m. at Jefferson High School.
