Steven M. Flanagan, age 25, of Cold Spring, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis as a result of injuries sustained in a work-related accident.
Steven M. Flanagan, age 25, of Cold Spring, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis as a result of injuries sustained in a work-related accident.
Steven was born May 2, 1986 in St. Cloud to Michael and Paula (Kaufman) Flanagan. At the age of 5, he moved with his family to Cold Spring, where he attended Cold Spring Elementary school. Steven was a 2004 graduate of Rocori High School.
While in school he attended youth group at River of Life Assembly of God and served as a camp counselor for special needs campers at Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria. Following graduation, Steven worked in the construction industry in the St. Cloud area until moving to Davenport, Iowa in February of 2009. While there he continued to work in construction. In September of this year he returned to the Cold Spring area and worked in general exterior construction and renovation. On November 3, 2011, he and his fiancée, Carmelitta, welcomed the birth of their daughter, Elia. He was a very proud father and adored his new baby.
Steven was very social, and was blessed with an outgoing personality. He liked working with his hands and spending time outdoors.
On November 21, 2011, Steven was injured in a work-related accident while working near Olivia. He was initially transported to the hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, and later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died on December 7, 2011. Honoring his generous wish, the gift of life was shared with as many as 75 people in need through organ and tissue donation.
Steven is survived by his parents, Michael and Paula Flanagan of Cold Spring; his fiancée, Carmelitta Bishop-Laueremann and infant daughter, Elia Flanagan, both of Cold Spring; brother, Nick Flanagan of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandparents, Karlene Ulrich of St. Michael, and Duane and Shelbee Jean Kaufman of Alexandria; uncles, Jeff (Barb) Flanagan of St. Michael, John (Kaye) Flanagan of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Shawn (Tiffany) Flanagan of Tennessee; aunts, Marita (Dennis) Roden of St. Michael, Marcia (Randy) Borell of Maple Lake, Brenda (Gary) Hernesman of Grand Rapids, Jodi (Michael) Grengs of St. Leo, Kristi (Thomas) Schabel of Alexandria; and numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Patrick Flanagan.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 10 at River of Life Assembly of God in Cold Spring with Pastor Denny Curran officiating.
